Pumps and compressors designed specifically for reliable midstream natural gas production.
Midstream companies operate oil and gas pipelines and gathering or transmission facilities responsible for moving natural gas from the wellhead to downstream consumers. Common midstream processors include fractionation plants that treat the raw gas product, remove water and contaminants, and separate natural gas liquids (NGLs) for use as blend components in refineries or as petrochemical feedstock. Once purified, the remaining methane gas is compressed and distributed to downstream consumers. Sundyne manufactures a range of pumps and compressors that play key roles in midstream operations.
Amine Treating
Amine gas treating utilizes various alkylamine solutions to remove hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from natural gas. Midstream plants treat raw gas transported from the wellhead to produce sweet gas for further processing. Sundyne sealless magnetic drive API-685 Centrifugal pumps and Sunflo industrial grade pumps are commonly used in the reflux and lean amine processes.
Cryogenic Processing
A cryogenic processing plant, also referred to as a striping plant, is a facility where natural gas flowing from wells is cooled to sub-zero temperatures (-120 degrees Fahrenheit, -84 degrees Celsius) in order to condense liquids that naturally occur within the natural gas. These liquids are referred to as NGL’s or Natural Gas Liquids. Sundyne OH2, OH3 and OH 5 process pumps are widely utilized for reliable, safe and efficient transportation of NGLs after they have been separated from the natural gas. Sundyne integrally geared centrifugal compressors are also widely utilized for regeneration of the demethanizer process.
Mole Sieve Dehydration
Mole sieve dehydration units remove water vapor from natural gas as it enters the midstream process after amine treating. A mole sieve process utilizes molecular materials to sift or separate the gas from water. Dehydration separates the water from natural gas for cryogenic processing. Inlet gas must be free of water vapor so that it will not freeze in the process. Sundyne compressors have a compact footprint and high efficiency that make them perfect for handling mole sieve regeneration and dehydration.
Hot Oils
Hot oil systems are designed to store and move heat transfer fluids used for midstream gas process heating. The heat transfer fluid is normally stored in an elevated and insulated vessel. Sundyne HMD/Kontro sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pumps are utilized to circulate the heated fluid from the storage tank through an electric process heater, gas fired heater or exhaust heat exchanger. The heat transfer fluid’s elevated temperature is then used to safely heat a process system and is then returned to the storage vessel.
Liquified Natural Gas
LNG is natural gas cooled to the point where it condenses into a liquid (at approximately minus–161°C). Liquefaction of natural gas reduces the volume more than 600 times – making it economical to transport between continents in specially designed ocean vessels. LNG technology brings natural gas to places where pipelines are not feasible. Sundyne compressors are used in multiple LNG processing applications (to remove water, and to generate the high pressures needed) for the liquefaction process.
